Sidney was born in St George in 1890; he was the 5th Child of Mark & Mary Counsell.   In 1901 the family were living in Horse & Jockey Lane his father was a general labourer born in Churchill Somerset.

Sidney married Beatrice Headington in 1910 & their daughter May was born in March 1911, they were living at 3 Swan Lane (near Hillburn Road) St. George. Sidney was an Engine Driver Under Ground.

The 7th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry landed in Boulogne on the 24th July 1915. The Battalion were soon in the thick of the fighting around Ypres.  Sadly Sidney Counsell lost his life on 7th August 1917

Sidney has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial . Panel 21.
