Lent Groups 2011
This year we will again be sharing a Lent Study Course with Summerhill Methodist Church.
The course starts on Thursday March 17th at 7.30 pm at Summerhill Methodist Church, on Summerhill Road, St. George.
The theme of the course is, ‘Wilderness and Exile’, Listening to the bible through Lent.
This is a course written and prepared by Rev. Michael Selman and his wife Jo. Michael is a partnership priest in the East Bristol partnership of Anglican parishes and Jo is a Licensed lay Minister in the same group.
The themes for the course are –
The Wilderness, the place of the desert/wilderness in Israels history.
Exodus 15: 12-27, and Exodus 16: 1-18
Exile, the significance of exile in Israel’s understanding of God.
Jeremiah 25: 1-11, and Psalm 137
Jesus 40 days in the Wilderness, the desert as a place of testing, and where God speaks.
Matthew 4: 1-11
Jesus in Gethsamane
Matthew 26: 47-56
The Way of the Cross
Matthew 27: 26-40 and 45-50.
Wilderness and exile for the church.
Isaiah 35: 1-10.
